Spring is coming and we wanted to share the inspiration behind our Spring Collection, a time when new life blooms and warmer days are just around the corner. This collection is inspired by the best colors and fragrances of spring. It’s the time of year when we open the windows and let the light in. Birds chirp and flowers are in bloom. This is the inspiration behind the spring collection – bringing the best of outside in (a little less pollen, and a little more sunshine).
Shelbey Tharpe is the artist on this collection. We kicked around several ideas about spring in the ideation process. We thought about graphic flowers, rain drops, umbrellas, colors, and much more in between. But in the end Shelbey loves to paint. So I let her go to it paint in her sweet spot. The oil-based painting captures the colors and beauty of spring florals.
The seasonal collections as a whole use the same theme – colorful oil paintings. The color is representative of nature in each season with hints of our favorite elements each season has to enjoy.
Springtime is for cleaning, organizing and letting in some fresh air, but if you want to feel like you’ve cleaned without doing the scrubbing, burn one of the candles from the Spring Collection and fake it ‘til you make it.
When I think of grapefruit, I think of the grapefruit trees at my grandparents’ house. We would pick them, sprinkle them with sugar and use those special grapefruit spoons. I knew I wanted to include this citrusy burst as a fresh, tangy, wake-you-up kind of citrus.
Top Note (the first scent when you open the jar): Orange, Mandarin, Lemon
Middle Note (what you smell when the candle is burning): Grapefruit, Peach
Base Note (the scent that lingers in a room after burning): Red Currant, Vanilla
Like a grapefruit, this isn’t overwhelmingly sweet. You can really smell the citrus but also the natural juiciness of peaches in this candle. The “sparkling” element is almost like a hint of champagne with a little fizz that brings a special sweetness to this candle.
If you like The Strip, you will like Sparkling Grapefruit.
If you love citrus candles from PCW (or citrus scents in general!) you’ll want Sparkling Grapefruit.
The quintessential spring activity and scent are combined in one candle (and a perfect fake out for your family to trick them into thinking you were working really hard, but you were just reading a book while they were cleaning their rooms and mowing the lawn!)
Top Note (the first scent when you open the jar): Lemon, Red Currant, Lemon Peel, Ozone
Middle Note (what you smell when the candle is burning): Lemon Verbena, Lemongrass, Sugar, Geranium, Juniper
Base Note (the scent that lingers in a room after burning): Vanilla, Black Currant, Peppermint
You may be wondering what “ozone” is. It smells like fresh air!
This scent reminds me of the best hints of lemon. Clean – it’s not overpowering, but it isn’t barely noticeable, either. This is tart, not too sweet, and a perfect candle to burn for a fresh burst. You can really smell the lemon verbena and white currant in this candle.
I love the scene in The Sound of Music when they’re singing about their favorite things. Snowflakes, mittens, and silver winters that melt into spring are basically describing any northern climate and I’m here for that transition from winter to spring. I knew something that reminded me of those first few flowers in spring had to be part of the collection.
Middle Note (what you smell when the candle is burning): Thyme, Jasmine, Ginger
Base Note (the scent that lingers in a room after burning): White Tea, Chrysanthemum
You’ll notice “rose” isn’t included in that scent list. That’s because the focus of this candle scent is more on the raindrops than the roses. It’s a light floral scent after a fresh spring rain. A scent that is sophisticated and beautiful.
Overall, this candle smells fresh and reflects the newness of the spring season.
You can really smell the thyme, jasmine and white tea in this candle scent.
Is there anything better than biting into the first fresh peach of the year? No, no there is not. Except maybe not having to deal with the mess it leaves behind. Enter: the Sweet Ginger Peach candle!
Middle Note (what you smell when the candle is burning): Peach, Plum, Violet, Ginger
Base Note (the scent that lingers in a room after burning): Vanilla, Sugar, Saffron, Amber
Overall, this candle smells like sweet, fresh peaches. It’s bright, sweet and so fresh for spring, summer and anywhere in between.
One of the first things I like to do with the first hint of spring is start planning my garden. Flowers, veggies, herbs; I want it all. I will for sure plant it too early (out of sheer excitement) and I will forget to water it when it gets too hot, but bring on the garden! I created this candle to capture the fresh-cut herbal green scent of a wander through the garden.
Top Note (the first scent when you open the jar): Bergamot, Lemon, Pine, Eucalyptus
Middle Note (what you smell when the candle is burning): Lavender, Rosemary, Green Floral
Base Note (the scent that lingers in a room after burning): Cedar, Sage
This is a light, botanical scent – it’s calming and relaxing like the perfect spa scent. But it’s true to life and real like you just grabbed some rosemary and lavender from your yard.
I really enjoyed thinking of all the aspects of spring – being outside, rainy days, cleaning, the first fresh fruit of the season – and combined that into a collection of light- to medium-strength fragrances that will make your home feel like you’re coming out of the winter stuffiness and throwing open the windows to a beautiful spring day.
Every candle purchased from our Spring Collection, we donated $1 to Light of Life Rescue Mission in Pittsburgh, a charity that is near and dear to me because they take good care of those who need it most.
